WCKC MEMBERSHIP MINUTES

MEMBERSHIP MEETING

7:35 pm  Mary called the membership meeting to order.

Minutes were published in newsletter and stand as published.  No
objections.

President—No Report.

Recording Secretary—Shannon sent a preliminary list by email.
Technically, members have until March 1st to renew.  After that
date, a final list will be composed and e-mailed.  Hard copies will
also be available at the March meeting for anyone that would like
one.  Also, AKC sent a letter asking for an updated list of officers.
Shannon faxed that information to them in January.

Treasurer—Jim passed out his reports.  We are off to a tremendous
start.  We were able to get advertising for our puppy classes and
the puppy match very cheap through the Western Star based on our
membership with the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce.  We
made a significant profit last year, almost $8,000.  We have been in
search of a cart to hull mats for training, matches, etc.  Jim was
able to locate a perfect cart on Craig’s List for $50 and purchased
it.  Jeremy will work on locking it up.

Corresponding Secretary—Mary explained that the person voted to
fill this position at the December meeting resigned her membership
with the club, leaving this position vacant.  According to the by-
laws the board of directors selected a new person to fill this
position.  The board chose Robin Heizer to fill that vacancy.  She
accepted.  If you have anything that is informational or interesting
that you would like to have published in the newsletter, please
forward it to Robin for inclusion in the newsletter.  Also send it to
Denice for the website.  This includes things like training issues,
pictures, dog related kid things, etc.  We would like our site to be
informational for the public.  Jim thanked Denice for the website.
It looks terrific.

1st Vice President—Programs—Jaime was unable to attend.  Mary
said we have some ideas for a few really nice programs and we are
looking forward to this year’s programs.

2nd Vice President—Training—Suzy said things are going very well.
Training begins this Wednesday, February 23rd.  We could use
some help with the first class and also with some backup
instructors/assistants.  It would be nice to have assistants so if a
teacher has to miss a class, there will be someone already familiar
that can fill in.  Jaime has the paperwork for registration.
Registration begins at 6:00 pm.  There has been good response so
far so it looks like this may be a profitable session.  There are
flyers if anyone would like to take some to disperse throughout the
community.  Also there are downloadable forms on the website.
Lucinda Craig,  veterinarian in Morrow will be teaching our puppy
class.  Her specialty is behavior and  she is a positive person.  Suzy
has a great deal of respect for her and believes she will be a
tremendous teacher for the puppies.  This week, Suzy will get the
mats from the trailer to the building utilizing our new cart.

Puppy Match—Kim Schaffter—We have our approvals from both
AKC and the Lebanon Armory.  We need volunteers for the day.  We
will have the building from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Registration begins
at 9:00 am so we will only have two hours to get things set up.  We
have a photographer for the day on site and she is going to be
doing the photos with the Easter Bunny, as well.  The flyer for the
match is gorgeous.  The flyers are available for club members to
disperse around the area.  The flyer and registration forms are also
available on the website.  Kim brought the bunny suit and showed
it off.  It is very cute.  Jim motioned that we reimburse Kim for the
purchase of the bunny suit.  The cost is $99, total.  The
photographer for the match has agreed to donate $125 so it is
actually more than covered.  Tina seconded.  All approved.  We may
also take the suit for pictures at other places such as the day of
our last training class.  We have discussed concessions for that
day.  The original idea was contact local VFWs, Elks, etc., however,
that did not pan out.  We have a club member that may be
interested.  Kim will discuss this with her first and then a final
decision can be made.

Show Committee—Dianne Lange—We had a problem with our slate
of judges.  One judge was supposed to judge 3 groups, however, he
will not be able to do this, per AKC.  Also, another judge may have
health issues that will keep her from judging.  We are scrambling to
find judges to replace these positions.   Stewards are being worked
on by Denice.  Kim is still working on trophies.  She brought
samples of the towels for best of breed prizes.  Also, Danny and
Suzann purchased cooling neck bands for all of the judges and for
club members.  They are very nice.  Groups are cash and rosettes.
BIS gets the silver bowl replica of the Don Carter Memorial trophy
and a cash prize.  We still have some time for premium corrections
if someone wants to sponsor a trophy.  There are a few that are
still not sponsored.  Robin is in need of raffle items.  She will be
getting  donations from businesses and if members would like to
make baskets or give money to make them, that is always helpful.
Hospitality—We need help in this area.  Let Dianne know if you can
help.  This is a big job and we can use lots of people.  Judges
Transportation and Judges Bags—We need enough of each item for
20 bags.  If anyone wants to donate, that will save the club money.
Items such as candies, puzzle books, fruits, really anything that
seems nice.  Signs are also being made for the vehicles that will be
transporting the judges.   Meet the Breed—We need someone to
coordinate.  Dick Lundy was nominated.  He agreed to talk with
Dianne about the needs for this event.  We will have a committee
meeting if we need to, but it looks like things are going along well
so we may not need one.

Webmaster—Denice says she’s building a page for brags.  She’d like
to add pictures of those who have great pictures of their dogs
doing anything, agility, show wins, or just being dogs.  She believes
this can be a draw to people who are looking to join our club or
attend our classes.

Readings—Second reading and vote for Krista Basta.  We welcome
our new member to the club.  Her contact information is Krista
Basta, 7968 Acorn Trail, Maineville, OH  45039, 513-947-6807.  We
also had a first reading for Jim and Laura Hobart.

NEW BUSINESS

Any unfinished business from the previous year would be viewed
now as new business and need to be reintroduced.  There was
nothing outstanding.

Our next meeting, currently scheduled for March 17th is during the
Louisville show which many of our members will be attending.  Tina
motioned to move the meeting to the following week,  Thursday,
March 24th so more members can attend.  Denice seconded .  All
approved.

The Cincinnati Kennel Club is looking for a name for our cluster
show.  There has been suggestions such as the flying pig cluster.
Denice offered queen city cluster.  If you have any ideas, e-mail
Mary so she can forward them on to Patty Haines.

Jim introduced the idea of running a one time add in the Western
Star to advertise our puppy match.  So far we have only spent $25
on advertising for the year.  Jim motioned to approve a budget of
$100 for advertising in the Western Star.  Jeremy seconded.  We
are also targeting the public for the Easter Bunny photos.  The
purpose of the advertising would be to draw the community for
spectators, Easter Bunny pictures, and also some entries for the
match.  All approved.

Dianne had a flyer from the Colega Dog Training Club offering
private lessons and regular lessons for training with a special
instructor.  Information will be on the website and in the
newsletter.  They are also having a “show and go”.  E-mail Dianne if
you’d like more information about either event.

graphic designer and she loves her Pomeranians.

direct her clients to us.

years ago.  They are interested in joining our club.

WCKC Board Meeting Minutes

Feb 3, 2011

7:37 pm meeting called to order by President, Mary Wuest.

Puppy Match-Kim Schaeffter, Chairman.  Our applications are in to
AKC and the armory.  We are waiting on confirm from both of them,
but do not anticipate any problems.  The website is up and looks
good.  All of the information, including flyers and pre-registration
forms are available online.  Kim would like to have Minuteman Press
make 100 color copies of the flyer and Jim will have 200 black/white
copies of the registration form made and then we can disperse
them.  We are looking at ribbons.  The best price so far looks like
$2.45 per 5 pack.  We still need best in show and new champion
ribbons.  We need to check the trailer for any we may still have.  We’
re waiting for warm day for that, but Mary will take care of it.  We
have nice totes for best adult and best puppy and an embroidered
lead for each.  There will be a roset and embroidered lead for best
junior as well.  Judges are covered, but we still need four stewards.
This would be a good opportunity for someone to learn.  There was
much discussion about food for those attending and working the
show.  It was decided that Jeremy will get contact information to
Kim for Lebanon’s VFW and Eagles groups.  They have food booths at
various things like Applefest and so may be able to do this as well.
We'll also have to see what the armory will allow us to use.  We need
to email the flyer to area clubs and we will also take hard copies to
places such as vet offices and area training clubs.

Training classes-Suzy Lundy, 2nd Vice President (Training).  Classes
begin February 23rd.  Registration is from 6:00-7:00 pm.  Puppy and
begining obedience classes begin at 7:00pm and advanced
obedience and confirmation are at 8:00 pm.  We have already had
several people interested.  Fees will again be $65 for non-member,
$15 for members and 4H participants and $40 for the puppy class.
Suzy talked with the fairgrounds and everything is set.  Suzy will be
the contact person with Terry at the fairgrounds.  They have agreed
to work with us and make things as easy as possible for all, ie. the
mats, etc.  We need to order a cart that will hold and transport the
mats easily.  Looks like it will cost about $400-$500 for a good one.
Since it is a large cost, it may need to be brought before the entire
club.  Mary will check into the specifics and if necessary, it will be
brought up for a vote at the next membership meeting.  Suzy needs
help with advertising and a contact person for phone calls.  Denice
has agreed to be the contact person and Jim will help out with
registration and taking the money the night of registration.  Jaime
told Jim she beleives all materials are set and we don't need
anything.  Mary will work on advertising in the local newspapers.
Mary will also create a flyer for the class and Jim will have 100
copies run for the next meeting.  Kim will disperse them as she is
dispersing the match flyers.

Easter Bunny costume-We can rent a costume for $90 plus shipping
or we can buy it for $99.  We would like to use it several times and
with those costs, it only makes sense to buy it.  Robin Heizer has
agreed to be the Easter Bunny.  We are looking to take pictures at
the puppy match, at the Warren County Humane Society, and at the
last training class April 13th.  Jim motioned to approve the purchase
of the costume, Jeremy seconded.  All approved.

Corresponding Secretary-Replacing this position.  Connie Blanken
resigned her position as Corresponding Secretary, leaving the
position vacant.  According to the by-laws, any position left vacant
during the course of the year shall be filled by a vote of the current
board members.  It was suggested that Robin Heizer be approached
about filling this position.  Jim made a motion that the president
contact Robin about this possilibity.  Suzy seconded.  All approved.

Jim is impressed with the website.  It looks wonderful!!!!  All of the
pertinent information is available on it and it was put together very
quickly.  Thank you, Denice.

Mary wanted to let everyone know that the Cincinnati Kennel Club
wants to know if we have any suggestions for a cluster name for our
shows.  She will also bring this up at the membership meeting.

Jeremy motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:40 pm.  Suzy
seconded.  Meeting adjourned.
