WCKC MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES
April 21, 2011

Mary called the meeting to order at 7:35 pm.

Minutes from the last meeting were published in the newsletter and
stand approved as written.

President—Mary—Thank you to everyone for a great turnout for
help with the Puppy Match.  The match went great!  A BIG thanks
to everyone who participated.

Recording Secretary—Shannon—No Report

Treasurer—Jim—He was very impressed and pleasantly surprised
with the Puppy Match.  He handed out his expense report.  We lost
$73.76, but this was better than expected since this was our first
puppy match in a long time.  Expenses for the All-Breed show in
May will be coming in soon and there is plenty of money available
to pay for those expenses.  We are doing well.

Corresponding Secretary—Robin—No Report

1st Vice President (Programs)—Jaime—Not present.

2nd Vice President (Training)—Suzy—We are going to be able to
have a  second round of training classes which will begin next
Wednesday, April 27th.  If we don’t have a huge enrollment, we’ll
only have one class, but if there is a need for two classes we will
be able to accommodate that as well.  Support from the club for
these classes has been phenomenal.  Suzy will not be able to
attend the first class, but the first night is generally a matter of
getting the dogs under control and we have several club members
that will be able to handle this class.  Suzy would like to make a
motion to amend our procedures with classes that we no longer
issue a collar and leash to each participant at registration and that
we continue to charge the same amount for classes.  Instead, she
would like to have a variety of collar and leash styles available that
people who do not already have their own could purchase from the
club.  (Pinch collars, buckle collars, leather leashes, etc.)  Many of
the people don’t use the collars and leashes we give them anyway
and it takes a tremendous amount of time fitting each dog for the
right sized collar when they register.  Price would stay the same for
the classes as we are still one of the cheapest classes around and
the other places do not give a collar and leash.  Jim seconded the
motion.  Motion approved.  We’ll see how turnout goes for the
classes on Wednesday at registration and then determine how
many classes we will offer.  Denice has the forms for registration.
Suzy will talk to Jaime and Denice to make sure things are set for
the start of class on Wednesday.  Last session, we started with 25
in one class and that class remained high in attendance, generally
around 20.  We expect several of those participants to come to this
set of classes.  The classes have not really been advertised too
much so attendance will not likely be really high.  Austin suggested
that we find a way to survey the participants to see how they heard
about our classes.  Maybe add a place on the application so we
know where our best advertising dollars are spent.

Puppy Match—Kim—Thank you again to everyone who supported
the match.  The support from our club members was tremendous.
There were many good comments about how things ran so
smoothly.  A special mention to Dan who played the role of the
Easter Bunny.  There were some very cute pictures that came as a
result.  We’ll be posting them on the website.  Also, thanks again to
Danny and Su for getting the mats to and from the match site.

All-Breed Show—Diane—The premiums are available if anyone
wants one.  They had a meeting with the Site Committee.  They are
going to put up a tent for a public information table and our raffle
items can be there this year.  We are going to start at 8:30am this
year so it will be a little later.  If we need fans for the rings, we will
either have to rent them or bring them ourselves.  The fairgrounds
do not have them available.  We could bring our own box fans.  Suzy
has some she could bring that they use for their horses.  We have
to be careful how close they are placed to the rings as some dogs
are bothered by them.  We will wait until we get close to the show
to decide.  If the weather is going to be hot, we will rent big fans.
Otherwise, we may try to bring our own fans and save the money.
We will be making sure the rings are all empty before the Meet-the-
Breeds starts.  Ring clean up needs to be monitored by us.  We’ll
need to check them periodically.  All specialty clubs are asked to
take their own trophies to ring side.  We asked that the pictures be
held inside.  They had already planned to move them inside for a
variety of reasons.  Catalogs will be a four day, all in one, booklet.
They will be sold for $10 at the front gate and at the trophy table.
We will be splitting the proceeds with the Cincinnati Kennel Club.
We need to clarify who we give the catalog proceeds to so we can
split it up accurately.  Gates open at 4:00 pm on Wednesday.
Thursday, May 26th at 10:00 am will be our day for setting up.  We’ll
need as many workers as possible to help set up that day.  We will
have parking passes available.  There are only 4-5 clubs doing a
specialty and we will need to set up those rings early on Friday
morning, but we can do the rest on Thursday.  Saturday, we will
need help cleaning up and loading the trailer so we can get out as
soon as possible.  Denice has 11 ring stewards ready for Friday, but
only 9 for Saturday.  Last year, we only had 9 rings, but it is a good
idea to have a couple extra to help out.  Denice is still looking for
two more for Saturday.  Once we get our entries back, we’ll know
how to set them up for the rings.  Trophies are finished.  There was
a stipulation that caused a little trouble that trophies can’t be done
in honor of etc. of a living person or dog.  It has to be made in
memory so the person or dog must be deceased.  This is an AKC
rule based on the idea that a living person could be showing a dog
or a living dog could be shown and so the trophy can not be an
influence.  Robin has had a few members tell her that they have a
dealer that they work with that will donate for our raffle.  She has
letters to give out if anyone needs one.  Judges are all set.  Judges
transportation is ready to go.  There were holes in the floor in one
of the buildings last year.  They are doing work to help those.  We
need to do a check on the buildings when we set up.  Next year
there will be serious upgrades done so we just need to get thru this
year.  Anyone donating items to the judges gift bags need to have
those items to Kim by the May meeting.  There needs to be 20 of
each item.

Next month’s meeting will basically be a meeting to finalize the
show.  Mary will not be able to attend and Jaime, 1st Vice
President, will be leading that meeting.

NEW BUSINESS
The Weimeriener Club is using our mats for their specialty show in
May at the Roberts Center in Wilmington.  They will get our mats on
the Thursday after our training classes and return them before the
next class that following Wednesday.

WCKCs Trailer—The trailer is in need of maintenance.  The tires are
dry rotted to a point that it will be dangerous to travel with it to the
show site in May.  Suzy made a motion that we purchase new tires
for the trailer and have brake and basic maintenance performed on
the trailer.  Jeremy seconded.  Motion approved.  We need to find
the title so we that we can get it legally licensed.  Insurance is also
a concern if it must be registered as commercial.  Jim H. motioned
to allot a budget of up to $1000.00 for tires, brakes and any other
maintenance recommended to get it in good working order.  Austin
seconded.  Motion approved.  It was agreed that Jeremy and
Shannon will pick the trailer up, unload it, get it weighed, have the
maintenance performed, and reload it before the May meeting.

Dogfest—Jim—We’d like to participate again this year in Dogfest.
We will be receiving information sometime soon and will be able to
give more details then.  Jim motioned that we participate in
Dogfest this year.  Usually, it falls the second weekend of June.
Suzy seconded.  Motion approved.

The Village of Waynesville is having a monthly event they are
calling Sunday Strolls the second Sunday each month throughout
the summer.  They would like us to participate in some form.  It
was discussed that we could do a Meet-the-Breeds on Main Street.
Something like 11am-2pm on the second Sunday in September.  We
could have a picnic ourselves and make it a fun day with our dogs.
Also, like the antique shows where you bring an old item and the
experts tell you what it is and how much it’s worth, we could do a
bring your mixed breed and we’ll tell you what breeds we see in it.
We could make it a fun day for all.  Kim motioned that we
participate in this the second Saturday of September which is
September 10th.  Robin seconded.  Motion approved.
